History

This Rolls-Royce Phantom II, better known as the Star of India, is named after a 563-carat sapphire from Sri Lanka. It is a symbol of luxury and elegance from the golden age of motoring.

It was commissioned by the Maharaja of Rajkot from the famous coachbuilders Thrupp & Maberly in a magnificent paint scheme - the cabin was painted in saffron and ochre, which symbolize purity, while the rest of the car was polished aluminum. The dashboard of the car was finished in natural marble stone.

Equipped with a smooth six-cylinder engine, the Star of India embodies the advanced technology and reliability of the Phantom II. Among the interesting features are additional headlights that follow the turn of the steering wheel, a technology that was widely adopted many years later.
